treatment programmes

All dogs are accompanied into the pool by our hydrotherapist Debbie Poynter, who is trained in hydrotherapy and canine first aid.  After an initial course some dogs may be allowed in the pool on their own, either free swimming or on a collar and pole, however each dog’s ability, confidence and medical condition will be assessed before that decision is made.

All dogs will receive a health check before they swim.

Any dog suffering from a medical condition, recovering from surgery, or with an injury must be referred by their vet using one of our referral forms.  All dogs must have veterinary approval before they will be allowed to swim.

Our courses cover:

  • Rehabilitation – either from injury or surgery.  Length of course will be assessed on the dog’s condition and progress.
  • Mobility – help with stiffness, pain and inflammation and various medical conditions.  Some dogs may need to swim on a regular basis to give them quality of life.
  • Puppy swims – teach your puppy to swim and be confident in water.  Particularly useful for large breeds who are not able to take lots of exercise until they are more mature but have endless amounts of energy to use up!  Puppies from 6 months old, unless referred for medical reasons.
  • Obesity – help with weight control and to regain some fitness.
  • Fitness training – particularly useful for racing, working and agility dogs.
  • Fun swimming – for healthy dogs that want to stay in top condition.

Each dog will be individually assessed and have a specific programme written for them.

We start all dogs on a 6 session course which may involve swimming two or three times a week for short periods.  The dog’s condition will be re-assessed after the initial course and feedback provided to your vet if necessary.
